As he and his band gear up for their highly anticipated return to the stage, No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont is speaking publicly about his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis for the first time. The California-born musician, 58, shared the news in a short video posted to his Instagram account on Sunday. “A number of years ago. I was experiencing a number of symptoms,” he said in the clip. “I went to my doctor, I went to a neurologist and I did a whole bunch of tests, and I was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease.” After acknowledging that it’s “been a struggle ... every day,” he went on to assure fans that he’ll be performing at No Doubt’s forthcoming residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, which kicks off next month. “The good news is, I can still play music,” he said. “I can still play guitar, I’ve been doing really well.” There is no cure for Parkinson’s, a neurodegenerative disease that can cause muscle stiffness, impaired speech and uncontrolled movement. According to the Mayo Clinic, early symptoms of the disease include limb stiffness and persistent hand tremors. As of Tuesday, Dumont’s post had received praise from some of his No Doubt bandmates. “You are such a beautiful soul, Tom!! I love you so much and can’t wait get on stage with you!” No Doubt trombonist Gabrial McNair wrote. Drummer Adrian Young added: “My friend, bandmate, and hero……I love you brother.” Led by singer Gwen Stefani, No Doubt is set to become the first female-fronted act to headline the Sphere since it first opened in 2023. The band added six additional performances after its initially announced 12-show run sold out quickly. After dominating the music charts in the 1990s and early 2000s with hits like “Just a Girl” and “Hella Good,” No Doubt has remained largely inactive in recent years as Stefani and Dumont have pursued solo projects. The band’s latest studio album, “Push and Shove,” was released in 2012. In 2024, however, No Doubt began hinting at a comeback after delivering a thrilling performance at Coachella that featured a surprise appearance by Olivia Rodrigo, who has long cited Stefani as an influence.
