Online outlet semi-accurate saying earlier Monday Nvidia was in negotiations to acquire a large PC company. That headline drove shares of Dell and HP Inc sharply higher during the trading session.

Dell and HP are among the top in terms of market share when it comes to PC vendors. But after the closing bell, Nvidia put out the following statement. The media report is false.

Nvidia is not engaged in discussions to acquire any PC maker.

As a result, Dell and HP Inc are lower after hours.
