The interstate was closed in both directions for hours and remained closed as of 7:17 a.m. Monday, affecting early-morning commuters. By 9:30 a.m., all lanes were open. According to FHP and FL511, flooding on the roadway prompted officials to close the interstate at World Drive. Flooding impacted a four-mile section of I-4, between State Road 532 (mile marker 658) to World Drive (mile marker 62), according to FL511. East- and westbound traffic on I-4 was being diverted onto World Drive. Motorists were advised Monday morning to select an alternate route to avoid delays. As the front stalls across Central Florida Monday, expect afternoon showers and thunderstorms across the central and southern portions of the Florida Peninsula, which have a 35-55% chance of rain. "Enhancement in rain coverage is possible Monday night and into Tuesday across Central and South Floridaas a weak low-pressure system develops along this front and traverses across the Peninsula," the Division of Emergency Management said.
