A dance instructor in Ohio has learned her sentence after she opened fire at a New Year’s Day party, which happened after her husband and boyfriend learned about each other.

The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office said that Olivia Clendenin was sentenced to serve between 16 to 20 years in prison during a hearing that was held on Thursday, March 26.

She learned her sentence two months after she was found guilty in January of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of illegal discharge at or into a habitation.

Prosecutors said that the shooting took place at a home in Clearcreek Township on January 1, 2025.

Clendenin, 29, allegedly found out her husband and boyfriend were at the same party together shortly after they both learned earlier that evening that they were both in relationships with the dance instructor, according to a press release shared by the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

During the trial, prosecutors said that Clendenin was in communication with both of the men on the evening of the incident. She then allegedly went to the party and fired eight rounds with a .40 caliber handgun.

Police said that she struck 29-year-old Daniel Johnson in the abdomen while he was sitting on the porch of the home. Johnson was neither Clendenin’s husband nor boyfriend.

Johnson spoke during Clendenin’s sentencing, explaining that he was at a New Year's Day party at the time of the scary incident. He also noted that he’s still impacted by the shooting and suffers from chronic pain.

“I had been invited over and was sitting on the porch minding my business. The defendant was attempting to shoot at someone else, and I was the one who ended up being shot,” Johnson said in court, according to Channel 3000. “In that moment, my life changed for reasons that have nothing to do with me."

Clendenin addressed Johnson during the sentencing hearing, saying that she was “very, very glad that he is well after a difficult time he has been through.”

“I truly hope that he has a great future. and I wish him nothing but the best in his future," Clendenin went on to tell Johnson, according to Channel 3000.

Clendenin also issued a statement regarding her loved ones during the hearing. "I would just like to say that I care deeply about my family, my friends, my business and those who rely on me in this world," she said.

Meanwhile, one of the victim’s family members said that Clendenin has shown no remorse regarding the shooting.

“She has not shown one bit of remorse or concern for the man she shot instead of the one she wanted to shoot,” the relative said during the hearing, per The New York Post. “Because of one person’s rage nothing is the same, and I don’t think it ever will be.”

Clendenin’s attorney, Lindsay Arway, said that her client plans to file an appeal after she was given her sentence.
