President Donald Trump lashed out at a Newsmax reporter Monday after the reporter began to ask about Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents being deployed to airports amid the ongoing Homeland Security funding battle.

Trump interrupted the reporter to ask what publication he was with. After the Newsmax reporter responded, the president told him, “You’re not doing a very good job.”

When the reporter tried to continue with his question, Trump interrupted him again.

“You’re not doing a good job. Did you hear me?” Trump said.

He then directed a CNN reporter to ask a question.

“Can you believe it? I’m taking CNN over Newsmax,” Trump said. “Can you believe it?”

After taking several questions from other reporters, he circled back minutes later to insult the Newsmax reporter again. While pointing at the reporter, Trump said to another reporter, “I don’t think he’s going to be at Newsmax long.”

Newsmax, a conservative publication that Trump typically favors, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump has long been an opponent of the free press, but in his second term has made more of a habit of lashing out at reporters — female reporters in particular.

Last year, after reporter Catherine Lucey pressed Trump about his relationship with sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, Trump ordered her to stop with an ugly insult: “Quiet, piggy.”

About a month later, Trump told ABC’s Rachel Scott that she was the “most obnoxious reporter in the whole place.” He scolded CNN’s Kaitlan Collins for not smiling and called her “Stupid and Nasty” on social media. He has called The New York Times’ Katie Rogers “ugly, both inside and out,” and ABC News’ Karen Travers “very loud.”

Trump administration officials have been following his lead, pressuring news outlets to fall in line.

Just last week, Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr urged networks to air more “patriotic” and “pro-America” programming that highlights the nation’s positive achievements.

And earlier this month, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth invoked a billionaire Trump ally’s deal to take over CNN’s parent company, taunting the network during a Pentagon press briefing by saying the sooner Paramount CEO David Ellison “takes over ... the better.”

Ellison, the son of Trump ally Larry Ellison, had reached a deal to acquire CNN parent Warner Bros. Discovery in late February, prompting many inside the newsroom to worry about their ability to produce independent reports about the Trump administration.
