Fatal crash blocks Interstate 75 South; traffic diverted in Collier

A Naples woman faces drunken manslaughter charges after a 96-year-old Naples man died in an early morning crash. Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested Genise Gardenia Taylor, 24, after her release from a hospital. Authorities said she suffered minor injuries. The wreck happened just after 4:15 a.m. March 18 along Interstate 75, near mile marker 110 in North Naples, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report. Troopers said Gardenia Taylor crashed head-on with the 96-year-old man and a 57-year-old New Hampshire man. Morning commuters will find Interstate 75 South blocked at mile marker 110 for several hours. Troopers projected it to open about noon. Florida Highway Patrol reported at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, that troopers were investigating a three-vehicle crash involving one fatality at Mile Marker 110 in Collier County. Southbound Interstate 75 traffic was diverted a mile earlier at Immokalee Road, while emergency crews continue to investigate. Troopers estimate the road will reopen around noon. Northbound Interstate 75 remains open, troopers said. Gardenia Taylor's arraignment date was not available by publication.
