Call it a clapping clapback. On Monday, Teyana Taylor responded to all the “miserable” people online who criticized her for enthusiastically applauding Amy Madigan after she lost to her at the 2026 Oscars. The “One Battle After Another” star was seen several times throughout the ceremony physically displaying unbridled joy — prompting some users to question her seemingly over-the-top behavior on X. “WTF going on with Teyana?” one user said on X in response to a video in which Taylor excitedly hugged “One Battle” director Paul Thomas Anderson as he accepted the Oscar for Best Picture. “This is like the 3rd video in a row I’ve seen of her wildin at the Oscar’s.” Both Madigan and Taylor were nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actress category Sunday, and when Madigan won for her haunting portrayal of Aunt Gladys in “Weapons,” Taylor could be seen shooting out of her seat to give the “Field of Dreams” alum a standing ovation. “I knew from the first hour something was off,” one user said about Taylor in response to a video of the moment on X. The Grammy-nominated singer took issue with this particular criticism and decided to respond to it on X Monday. “The world holds so much misery that miserable hearts forget the face of happiness,” Taylor wrote. “They grow comfortable being sore losers, so when they see real sportsmanship it unsettles them! like holy water touching a demon.” She continued, “Because clapping for someone else’s victory requires something many people never learned…how to win with grace & pure joy, and how to lose with grace, chin up & dignity.” The world holds so much misery that miserable hearts forget the face of happiness. They grow comfortable being sore losers, so when they see real sportsmanship it unsettles them! like holy water touching a demon. In the video, Taylor can be seen outside of the Oscars reprimanding the security guard for putting his “hands on a female” and calling him “rude.” A source close to the incident told TMZ that the security guard blocked Taylor by trying to push her away from the stairs while she was trying to return to the stage for a Best Picture victory photo with the rest of the “One Battle” cast. The source added that the security guard asked Taylor to apologize to him during the tense moment. A HuffPost source with knowledge of the events confirmed the TMZ account. The Oscars and the security firm that employed the guard have both apologized for the incident.
