Janelle Monáe met her famous cousin for the first time at a Golden Globes afterparty!

As a staff writer at BuzzFeed, I write about all things celeb and pop culture.

When he died in 2021, she posted a tribute on Facebook, writing, "Growing up, you were a phenomenal source of inspiration. Your accomplishments were tremendous. Your spirit was gloriously generous. From my family, our family, from my neighborhood, our neighborhood. Your legacy will continue to live on, in all of us. Rest In Peace Gen. Colin Powell."

He'd always wanted to be in a group with his uncle, but it wasn't until he showed Redfoo his song "I'm Leaving You For The Groove" that it happened. Redfoo was so impressed with how different the track was that he suggested they form a group.

Afterwards, Berry became LMFAO's number one fan, and he even wore their iconic glasses.

She also said that during a four-hour breakfast, Berry gave her some sage advice about failure. He told her that, though he failed many times, his sisters, who were business owners, never stopped believing in him and investing in him. Their support encouraged him to keep trying.

She continued, "I answer the question, and then afterwards, I'm like, 'Why the fuck did I do that again?' Maybe this is the day where we just go, like, 'You can stop asking.' It just makes a sad story. But we're talking about great things, yeah, and humans are capable of so much more than one thing. But for whatever reason, people want to really focus on the sadness, and I'm like, '[I'm] good.'"

Though Quavo often referred to the third member of the group, Offset, as his cousin, Offset isn't actually biologically related to either of them.

They found out they were all related on the show Finding Your Roots. Danielle told Live with Kelly and Mark, "They take our DNA when we do the testing, and so [Niecy and Sterling] had already been on the show. So they had theirs. They figured it out that we were cousins. I can't remember who's on what side... One's on my mom's, and one's on my dad's. I'm the connective tissue!"

"It was me, Mommy, his daughter Destiny, and I just remember it made such an impact on me that I worked so hard through high school to then be able to claim my spot at Harvard, but it started because of the experience he created," she said.

"I didn't even get a chance to put my lil cuzzo in da back of the RR and give him all the game i wanted to give him, didn't get a chance to pick him up in the Ferrari and kick sh*t wit him how I wanted to, didnt get a chance to drop the top on my Bentley and pull up on my grandma wit Juice in the car wit me, didn’t get a chance to po' up in da lambo witchu like i wanted to, didn't even get a chance to chop it up witchu and talk about our family history like i wanted to. Honestly i didnt care about doin any music together because we blood and music is my last concern. I was on the plane comin back home from Germany when i got this bad news and it FU**D ME UP! watch over your moms and the rest of the family and tell God to make sure he save me a spot please. Matter fact, now that u wit God he can tell u all about my life, ask him about all the sh*t that i did to get to where I'm at," he said.
